aois21 publishing celebrates 2nd birthday with long list of accomplishments

Year of growth is only the first step for different kind of publisher

MOUNT VERNON, VA – aois21 publishing, LLC celebrated its second birthday on May 8th and looked back at the accomplishments of the past year. The independent publishing company’s second year included these accomplishments:

  • Released the second aois21 annual. After a second successful Kickstarter campaign, two months of sifting through submissions from around the world, editing and production, and printing by Printing Images of Rockville, MD, the second edition was available October 1st. The launch event was held at One More Page Books in Arlington, VA, and broadcast on Periscope and later on YouTube.
  • Signed two new Creatives. We welcomed sci-fi writer James D. King after meeting him at the Gaithersburg, MD book fair. Poet Michael B. Judkins joined us after contributing to the 2015 aois21 annual.
  • Released new titles. Our first free title, the sports memoir 48 Game Misconduct by Keith F. Shovlin, was released just after our last birthday. The fantasy novella The Magnus and the Maiden by Philip J. Sipkov, with illustrations by Rebecca Head, was released in the summer. HIVE: First Contact by James D. King came out last fall and had lead sales each month. We recently announced the preorder for Michael B. Judkins’ Interlude to Sentimental Me!
  • Created ePress21. We rebranded our self-publishing offerings, creating a new imprint called ePress21. We launched a new website with tiered pricing of services and some new offerings. Additionally, we launched a monthly webinar to help authors answer the question, “Are you ready to self-publish?”
  • Launched three new podcast series and the aois21 podcasting network. Building off our initial podcast series, we launched the aois21 podcasting network with three additional shows, the weekly literary news podcast Literally This Week and two Creative-helmed monthly broadcasts: Sexed, Vexed, Perplexed with the Modern Whore, hosted by Aylin Vega, and The World’s Only Podcast, hosted by Ian Roberts and Joshua Silberman.
  • Organized and participated in many events. We hit the road and took part in book fairs in Gaithersburg and Frostburg, MD. We branched out into comic-book conventions by traveling to Richmond Comicon. We also held events such as the aois21 annual launch party and an evening at Books and Other Found Things in Leesburg, VA.
  • Hired new staff. Our support teams grew as we hired editors Stephanie Bujold, Erin Mathis, and Amy Muscato and designers Rana Leah Gainer and Allen Forrest.
  • Organized the aois-dana: Our fan organization allows readers, e-mail subscribers, and contributors to show their support with a ribbon and get special news and updates through a Facebook group.
  • Explored new opportunities. We’re constantly exploring new technology, such as Periscope live web video, and new opportunities, such as Comicons. We will always remain open and optimistic and keep doing everything we can to reach out to new readers and authors, no matter where they are.

"When you look at all we’ve done this past year, it may not seem as impressive as our first year,” said Keith F. Shovlin, aois21’s publisher. "That would be a poor assumption, though, as everything we started last year has continued to grow, and now, with everything we’ve added, the foundation we stand on is much stronger for the road ahead."
